South Carolina Department of Mental Health is Hiring an Employee Relations Consultant #163879 Near Columbia, SC

With our Agency's mission to support the recovery of people with mental illnesses, we provide a complete array of medical and support services for children, adults, and families throughout South Carolina.

This position is located at the Department of Mental Health, Central Office, 2414 Bull Street, Columbia, SC 29201.

Under general supervision of the Employee Relations Director, you will be coordinating the day-to-day operations of the Employee Relations functions and assisting in the delivery of Employee Relations Services to employees of the South Carolina Department of Mental Health (SCDMH).

Responsibilities for this Employee Relations Consultant include but are not limited to:

  • Manage all disciplinary actions and consult with supervisors and managers to ensure fair, consistent, and lawful implementation of discipline; confer with and counsel management in the area of performance management, to include the substandard performance process.
  • Manage and coordinate HR policy/procedures to include updates and communications to all employees. Interpret state and federal employment laws and provide guidance and information to all levels of management throughout the agency.
  • Respond to EEOC / SCHAC complaints and serve as a backup in responding to employee grievances to include documentation review.
  • Manage employment matters to include FLSA, FBLA and ADA. Provide guidance / counsel to management and HR Representatives concerning employee relations issues pertaining to these federal employment laws. Participate in interactive conversations with supervisors and employees to determine accommodation for medical documentation requests.
  • Consult with employees of the agency to address concerns, take steps to resolve conflict and handle complaints in a positive manner, and facilitate healthy work relationships. When necessary, serves as a mediator for staff to assist them in resolving work-related conflict.
  • Develop and conduct a variety of HR-related training and / or information for all levels of SCDMH managers and employees.

Minimum Requirements:
A bachelor's degree in a related field and six (6) years of progressive experience in human resources management programs with at least four (4) years directly related to the Employment Relations function.
